Spotlight- Laura Gentis

Laura Gentis is our Community Liaison. She is the face of HomeCourt Home Care! Her job is to be out in the community, creating awareness and knowledge of what we do here! She also does a lot in the office, offering support to everyone! We love Laura, her contagious laughter, positive personality, and love for life! Here is a little more about her...

Tell us a little about yourself: Well, I am a native of Wells County. I graduated from Southern Wells High School and Indiana Wesleyan University in Business Administration. My parents are Chad and Donna Cochran. I am wife to Rick Gentis and mom and mom-in-law to Heath & Lindsay Gentis and Hayley & Ryan Murray. Rick and I feel blessed that our 2 children have given us our 7 grandchildren!!! Each one of them is a unique little person and I adore watching their personalities develop. Cayden, Gavin, Owen, Brody, Amelia, Emma and Evie keep me smiling and laughing with their stories and shenanigans.

How long have you been with HomeCourt Home Care? After 32 years at Farm Credit, I retired on 3/31/2017 and started working at HomeCourt Home Care on 4/1/2017.

What is your favorite thing about working here? Working with my family and co-workers has been a great experience. I feel so blessed because I have loved both of my careers and the people I have had the opportunity of working with! There is such a need for senior care in our rural communities and I feel God has placed me right where I need to be.

What is your favorite dessert? I’m more of a salty person than a sweet person, but love me some bread pudding! :)

What is your favorite holiday? Christmas and Easter are the two holidays that I cherish. The meaning behind both holidays is not something that I take for granted. My faith is extremely important to me and those holidays are a great time to remember our purpose for being here.

What is one of your hobbies? That’s an easy one - my husband and I are avid travelers. We have been to 48 of the 50 states and plan to knock out the last 2 of North Dakota and New Mexico in the next couple of years. Israel was the highlight of our travels for me - to actually walk in the areas where Jesus walked was indescribable.

Do you prefer coffee/tea? Anyone who knows me will laugh at this question. I am a coffee connoisseur. Have not met a coffee machine yet that I couldn’t master.

What is your favorite flower? In the spring when the daffodils come up, it always brings such hope of spring after a long winter.

Where is one place that you have always wanted to visit? We have a bucket list that is pretty extensive. England, Italy, Spain, France and China are on the top of my list. My husband is pushing pretty hard for Africa.

What would you do with $1 million dollars? There are so many worthy causes that I wish I could give more to - so a lot of it would go to local needs in the community. Being from a financial background, saving money is second nature. So definitely would help fund the grandchildren’s college educations.

If you could have coffee with anyone (from the past or present), who would it be with and why? I have spent the past 2 years reading and studying the Bible from beginning to end. There are so many Bible figures that I would love to sit down and talk with. They dealt with some of the same human temptations, doubts and fears that we have today. David would be one who I would like to talk with.

Here is what the others at the office want to share about Laura:

"I am so thankful that Laura has chosen to share her time to help us build HomeCourt Home Care! Laura is willing to do anything that helps HomeCourt and its mission and truly has a servant's heart. We initially planned for Laura to head up our marketing efforts (which she has surpassed any expectations we had!) but I cannot even put into words all the various hats she has come to wear over the years. You won't find Laura without a smile and a cup of coffee! Laura doesn't know a stranger, and has the most positive outlook on life of anyone I know!!! I am so thankful for what Laura does for us here at HomeCourt and for being a wonderful mother-in-law and grandma!" -Lindsay

"Laura is such an inspiration! Her faith in God is clearly the most important thing to her and she portrays that in everything she does! She has a deep love for her family and passion for what we do here at HomeCourt. Her positive attitude, love for life, and bright smile is contagious to all around her. I count it a blessing to be able to work with her every day!" -Haley

"Since day one, Laura has shown me how dedication and commitment to your position pays off. Laura's dedication to marketing, customer service and the clients is a huge part of the success we have at HomeCourt Home Care. I've never met someone that loves her community like she does. She is always uplifting and willing to lend a hand with whatever is needed. We are so thankful to have her part of the team at HomeCourt Home Care! We love Laura!!" -Jama
